Movie Synopsis

Vietnam/France, 1995. Directed by Tran Anh Hung . When a young Vietnamese has his pedal-cab stolen he must pay off his debt to the boss. He is lured into the underworld of 'the Poet', a charismatic but vulnerable and self-destructive gangster, who has also affected the life and virtue of the young man's sister. This is a film about life abruptly knocked off course, and how people will change their morality in order to survive. The frantic setting and the use of symbolic imagery -purification and destruction in water and fire - make this movie a visual treat.
