VIETNAMESE RESTAURANT OWNER WITH CULINARY PIONEER AWARD

    Miami, May 13, 2003 – Barely a few days after the doors open to her latest culinary venture on South Beach, restaurateur Rin Nedtranon will be awarded the Asian-American Appreciation Month's Pioneer Award in Southeast Asian Cuisine in Miami Dade.

On June 20, Nedtranon will officially open the first Vietnamese restaurant on South Beach, called Sushi Saigon. Serving up authentic Vietnamese as well as fusion Vietnamese cuisine, Sushi Saigon is the latest in Nedtranon's restaurant entrepreneurism that began in South Florida some 27 years ago.

Having grown up in Bangkok where she cultivated her love for Southeast Asian cooking, Rin opened her first Thai restaurant, Siam Room, in Hialeah in 1978. Her next project, Siam Lotus Room on Dixie Highway, was damaged by Hurricane Andrew. Her current Thai establishment, Sea Siam located in Pinecrest, opened its doors to the Asian food loving public 16 years ago.

Rin's inspiration to introduce Vietnamese cuisine to South Florida arose from a previous collaboration with a close Vietnamese friend 18 years ago. She found herself hooked on the freshness, lightness and unique flavors of the cuisine, and in 2002 decided to capture a growing interest and appreciation for Vietnamese cuisine and culture.   Sushi Saigon is the result of this desire for refined yet simple Vietnamese food set against a decorative fusion of South Beach modernity and traditional Asian furnishings.

The menu offers choices between authentic Vietnamese as well as Fusion Vietnamese and traditional Japanese fare.   For newcomers to Vietnamese cuisine, there are fixed price tasting menus for a good cross-section of the various dishes. A focused ‘executive' lunch menu will be on offer as well as the main menu during lunchtime.
